With hearts full of love and the hope of Christ, we announce the passing of our mother, EmmaLee Alice Higgins, who was called home by the Lord on June 14, 2024, at the age of 87. A resident of Chambersburg, PA, she walked in faith and now rests in the promise of eternal life.
EmmaLee was born on December 6, 1936, in Chambersburg. Her parents were Willis and Bertha Hoover. She was big sister to sister Jean and brother Buddy. After a career move to Jackson Heights, NY, EmmaLee met her future husband Austin “Paul” Higgins and won him over with a warm bowl of chicken soup! Paul and EmmaLee were married on November 14, 1960, in Ardmore, OK.
Throughout many moves and relocations, as a pilot’s wife, EmmaLee was the glue that held the family together. Faithful to Paul and raising 2 sons, Michael and Stephen, EmmaLee demonstrated tenacity and a commitment to raising a Christ-centered family.
Throughout her life, EmmaLee was active in her church and had a passion and incredible skills for all things sewing, quilting, knitting and embroidery. Mom used these gifts to support the family in tight times and later in life to teach and share with others, making and donating many items, especially quilts, to those in need.
EmmaLee is preceded in her journey to heaven by her husband Paul and leaves behind a legacy of faith and love in her family. She is survived by sister Jean and brother Buddy, sons Michael and Stephen, 4 grandchildren Kimberly, Amanda, David, Jonathan and 2 great-grandchildren Joshua and Isabella.
At mom’s request, a small celebration of life will be held on June 28, 2024, with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mercy House of Chambersburg, https://mercyhouseofchambersburg.org/, a cause close to our hearts.
We take comfort in knowing that our mother is now experiencing the fullness of joy in the presence of our Savior, and we look forward to the day we shall meet again.
