Robert Louis “Bob” Dolaway, 63, passed peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2022 with family by his side. Bob was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in May of 2022. He was admitted to Waynesboro Hospital on Thanksgiving Day and fought hard to make it home to be surrounded by his loved ones. Bob had recently retired to Waynesboro, PA, after living in Brunswick, MD for many years.
Robert was born December 28, 1958 in Johnson City, NY. Son of the late Frederick (Fred) and Emma Dolaway, he grew up in Conklin, NY with his six siblings. He worked on the farm while going to school. Ever since a young age Bob’s passion was fishing. He would spend hours at the river fishing and later in life bought a boat, her name was “Reality”, and she was his pride and joy. Family and friends would go out fishing with him frequently. He also enjoyed fishing derbies with his two grandchildren.
After graduating from Susquehanna High School, Bob enlisted with the United States Marine Corp and never forgot the brotherhood that came along with the job. He worked carpentry for many years and he was considered to be a master carpenter by those that knew him. His grandchildren would always say “Grandpa can fix it.” Bob retired from GSA while working at The White House in Washington, D.C.
He was a simple man. Just give him a fishing pole and you wouldn’t see him for hours...sometimes days. He enjoyed quiet evenings at home watching movies and playing games on the computer. Bob also loved to sit out on his deck and watch the hummingbirds at the feeders. He also loved a good joke.
Bob was the beloved husband of Christine Dolaway for 32 years. A father figure to step-daughter Traci Simons and grandfather to Madalyn and Mason Mann. Brother to Linda Bailey, Cathy Minoia, Frederick (Scootch) Dolaway Jr., Jim and (Wanda) Dolaway, Tim and (Carolyn) Dolaway and Philip Dolaway. He also had an abundance of extended family and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Robert's Life will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 21, 2023 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro, 43 S Church Street, Waynesboro PA 17268 at 1:00pm. Reception to follow the service. Arrangements are by SimpleChoice Cremation Services, Inc., Chambersburg, PA.
