Robert F. Hanzlik, Sr., 96, of Biglerville, PA passed away peacefully at his home with his wife of 46 years, Verdell; two daughters, Sammy, and Autumn; and grandson, Michael by his side. Born March 1, 1926 in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Fredrick Hanzlik.
Bob was employed as a driver for Motor Freight Express for many years until the time of their closing and his retirement. After retiring he became a dad and “Mr. Mom” to Sammy and Autumn whom he and his wife adopted in 1992.
Bob was also a part of the Lloyd Sprint Car Racing Team in the 70s and 80s. He was also a member of the Sunny Ray Diner and Flamingo Diner breakfast clubs.
He is survived by his loving wife, Verdell Helman-Hanzlik; three children, Sammy Hanzlik of McConnellsburg, Autumn Topaz of Arlington, VA, and Linda Stuck of Harrisburg, PA; two grandchildren, Michael Martinez of New Oxford, PA and Michelle Lloyd of Waynesboro, PA; a great-grandson Wyatt Feldman who is currently serving in the US Navy; and a great-granddaughter Jillian Feldman of Waynesboro. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his son Robert Hanzlik, Jr. who was a Navy veteran and Marine Corpsman serving in Vietnam who passed away in 2011.
